Cards Customer Service
Call Centre 1300 651 089
Once Westpac detects a fraudulent transaction and/or believes that your credit card information has been compromised, your credit card will be re-issued. This is necessary to prevent fraudulent activity occurring or continuing. A new replacement card will be issued with a new credit card number and expiry date.
The immediate impacts of fraud vary, depending on the type of card involved:
Debit MasterCard
Depending on the type of fraud, you may still be able to use your card for regular debit purchases by selecting "Cheque" or "Savings" from your account options. However, "Credit" will not be available. In some instances, Westpac will need to stop all access to your card immediately and you will not be able to use it until you receive a replacement card (i.e. your card will be cancelled). This will be explained to you when you discuss this matter with Westpac's Fraud Detection team.
Accounts with American Express Cards / or Additional Cardholders
If you hold a MasterCard/VISA and American Express Companion Card or have additional cardholders to your primary credit card, in the event of fraud all credit cards will need to be stopped and replaced. Westpac also provides the option of emergency access to funds, should you require immediate access to cash.
Standard Visa or MasterCard
Your credit card will be cancelled and replaced and you will not be able to gain electronic access to your credit card account until a replacement card has been issued. There are alternative emergency options available to you should you require immediate access to funds. Please contact our Customer Service Representatives on 1300 651 089 or your Relationship Manager to identify the best solution for you.
