Pen or PIN

Credit card purchases have always required your signature but now you have the option of using a 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number), when making purchases at participating shops in Australia instead. Of course, you can continue to sign for purchases as you've always done. The choice is yours.

Transactions are now quicker with a PIN

Keying in your 4-digit PIN is more convenient than signing because it's quicker. Just enter your PIN on the keypad and you're done.

Know your PIN if you're traveling overseas

While it is not compulsory that you use your PIN when making a credit card purchase in Australia, we do recommend that you memorise your PIN, especially if you are traveling overseas as some overseas retailers may only accept a PIN for credit card purchases.

Q. I have a PIN on my card already. Do I need a new PIN?
A. No, your existing PIN is what you should use for verification.

Q. The additional cardholder on my account has a different PIN to mine; do they need a new PIN?
A. No, their existing PIN is what they should use for verification.

Q. What if I have two cards linked to one credit card account?
So that you don't need to remember multiple PINs when making credit card purchases - if you have two cards linked to one credit card account – your PIN will be the same for both of your cards.

For example you can use the same PIN with your Altitude American Express® Card and your Altitude MasterCard® when making credit card purchases.

Please note, if you have more than one Westpac credit card account you will need a PIN for each account.

Q. What if I have an additional cardholder on my credit card account?
A. The additional cardholder would have received their own PIN at the time the account was opened. Additional cardholders benefit from these PIN enhancements in the same way you do.

Q. Can I withdraw money using my PIN?
A. You can withdraw money using your card and nominated PIN at any ATM worldwide displaying the Cirrus®, Maestro®, MasterCard® or Visa Plus acceptance marks with your Westpac issued MasterCard card or Visa card. Please note you can only use your Westpac issued American Express card for purchase transactions and not for cash advances (including from ATMs).

Q. What if I have been issued a PIN but have forgotten it?
A. Simply call Westpac on 1300 788 384 and our Customer Support Team can issue you with a new PIN.
